Fleming Island High School sophomore Sophia Moody shot a 5-under-par 30 in her first nine-hole round of the 2026 season.

Clay Today reported Sunday that Moody's score was record-setting, though the report did not identify the record or name the course.

Summer events tested Moody against top amateurs

Moody entered the fall season with a strong summer résumé. She tied for 14th at the Florida State Golf Association's Women's Amateur Stroke Play Championship, held July 10-12 at The Amelia Island Club at Long Point, competing against players well beyond the high school level. Later that month, she represented the First Coast on the North team at the 20th Florida Junior Cup, held July 27-28 at The Plantation at Ponte Vedra Beach, according to the Jacksonville Area Golf Association. The North squad ended a five-year winless stretch, defeating the South 17-15.

Fleming Island's golf program is part of a fast fall athletics start. The school went 6-0 across volleyball, swim and dive, boys and girls golf, and junior varsity football Sept. 4.

Orange Park seniors rally Raiders at halftime

Orange Park High School head football coach Marcus Wimberly credited his seniors, not himself, for a second-half turnaround.

Wimberly said his own halftime talk was less emotional than the speech some of his seniors gave the team, Clay Today reported Sunday. The report did not identify the game.

Senior leadership has been a recurring theme for the Raiders this fall. After opening the season with lopsided losses to Jackson, 41-0, and Oakleaf, 46-6, Orange Park trailed Atlantic Coast 14-0 at halftime Sept. 3 at Hoyt B. Cotney Stadium. The Raiders outscored the Stingrays 27-2 in the second half to win 27-16, according to DuvalSports.

The comeback was the Raiders' first win of the season.

"We were tired of losing. Everyone was tired of losing, so tonight we decided to come together in the second half and play for one another and win," Orange Park quarterback Daeveon Williams told DuvalSports after the game.

Orange Park improved to 1-2 with the win. The Raiders hosted Terry Parker in their homecoming game Friday, as previously reported.

Schedule details for Fleming Island girls golf and Orange Park football were not available at press time.
