Orange Park pulled away from Terry Parker 28-14 in its Homecoming game Friday, Sept. 18, at Hoyt B. Cotney Stadium, improving to 2-3 on the season.
The Raiders led 28-6 through three quarters before the Braves closed with an 8-0 fourth quarter that was not enough to erase the deficit. Orange Park has won three of its last four home games. Parker fell to 0-5, its seventh straight loss dating to last season, according to MaxPreps.
The 28 points were Orange Park's most in a game this season.
Mills, Fields lead the offense
Senior running back Austeen Mills rushed for 72 yards and two touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Jaden Fields caught for 72 yards and a touchdown, a season high for him.
Head coach Marcus Wimberly's squad had opened the season with lopsided losses to Andrew Jackson (41-0 on Aug. 21) and Oakleaf (46-6 on Aug. 28) before its first win, a 27-16 comeback over Atlantic Coast on Sept. 3. A 63-18 road loss at Clay on Sept. 11 followed before Friday's win.
In that Sept. 3 win, the Raiders trailed 14-0 before scoring 27 unanswered points, according to DuvalSports. Senior free safety Julian Still blocked a punt and intercepted a pass. Corey Johnson scooped the blocked punt for a touchdown. Quarterback Daeveon Williams scored on a short plunge and later connected with Amare Bellamy on a 35-yard touchdown pass. Austeen Mills scored to put Orange Park ahead 21-14.
"We were tired of losing," Williams said after the Sept. 3 win over Atlantic Coast. "Everyone was tired of losing, so tonight we decided to come together in the second half and play for one another and win."
That senior resolve carried into Friday's Homecoming rout.
