Residents of The Station at Fleming Island Apartments should boil their tap water before drinking it after the Clay County Utility Authority (CCUA) issued a precautionary advisory for the complex.

Water service at the apartment community, located at 1757 Theodora Lane near U.S. 17 and Radar Road, was interrupted Wednesday for emergency repairs to the water distribution system, according to the CCUA. The utility posted the advisory Thursday.

As of Friday, the advisory remained in effect. It will stay in place until CCUA completes a bacteriological survey of the drinking water supply. The utility did not provide a specific date for when testing would be finished or when the advisory would be lifted.

In the advisory, authored by CCUA's Janice Loudermilk, the utility said its technicians must complete the repair, flush the water lines and measure disinfection levels before service is fully restored. CCUA also advised residents to turn off appliances that automatically draw water while service is temporarily unavailable.

What to do once service resumes

Once water is flowing again, the utility recommended residents let their faucets run before using the water. Air trapped in the system may cause the water to appear discolored, CCUA said.

CCUA said it will post a notice on affected residents' doors and update its website when the advisory is lifted.

Second CCUA boil water notice this week

The advisory is the second CCUA boil water notice in two days. The utility also issued one for the western section of the Orange Park Mall area after a separate emergency repair, as we reported Thursday.

The Station at Fleming Island offers one-, two- and three-bedroom units. The exact number of households affected was not available.
