Fleming Island state swimming champions William Shoesmith and Noah Stotler each scored 40 points Saturday at the Frank Holleman Swimming Invitational at the Planet Swim pool in Ponte Vedra.

Shoesmith, the reigning Class 3A 500-yard freestyle state champion, won two individual events. Stotler, the 3A 200-yard freestyle state champion who transferred to Fleming Island from Clay High, won two more.

Shoesmith and Stotler sweep four individual events

Shoesmith won the 500 free in 4:28.23, holding off Nease's Lincoln Driesse at 4:29.72 and Ponte Vedra's Chase Kendall at 4:32.06. Shoesmith and Driesse finished first and second in the same event at the 2025 Class 3A state meet, where Shoesmith posted a 4:25.41.

In the 200 individual medley, Shoesmith won by nearly seven seconds with a 1:50.50.

Stotler won the 200 free in 1:37.71, pulling away by roughly three seconds in the final. He won the 100 butterfly in 48.21 after dropping nearly three seconds from his preliminary time. Nease's Luke Zardavets placed second in 48.73.

Clay County Commissioner John Sgromolo honored both swimmers with a proclamation Jan. 27 after their 2025 state championship performances, according to a post on X.

Bolles, Creekside claim team titles

Bolles won the boys team title with 448 points. Nease placed second at 413 and Ponte Vedra third at 358. Fleming Island finished seventh with 134 points. Orange Park placed eighth with 106.

On the girls side, Creekside won with 477 points. Fleming Island placed sixth with 164. Orange Park finished 13th with four points.

Strombeck leads Fleming Island girls

Fleming Island sophomore Ellie Strombeck, a transfer from Oakleaf who qualified for the 4A state meet last year as a relay member, led the Golden Eagles girls with 26 individual points. She placed fifth in the 500 free and seventh in the 200 free. Kinsey Yarbrough added 19 points with a fifth in the 100 free. Klara Shoesmith scored 16 points with a sixth in the 200 IM, and Natalie Kendall earned 15 with a sixth in the 50 free.

For Orange Park's boys, Zephan Leak scored 21 points with a seventh in the 100 breaststroke and ninth in the 50 free. Dakota Blake earned 15 points with a fourth-place finish in the 100 backstroke.
