Fleming Island High School's varsity volleyball team topped Middleburg 3-1 on Tuesday at The Nest, improving the Golden Eagles' record to 10-2 this season.
The win extended Fleming Island's winning streak to three matches and improved the team's home record to 5-1. The Golden Eagles are 1-0 in Florida High School Athletic Association 4A District 4 play and sit second in the district standings, according to MaxPreps. Fleming Island is ranked No. 49 in Florida.
FI Eagle Athletics posted on X after the match, crediting the student section with bringing the energy all night.
Preseason rankings and early-season results
The matchup featured two teams that entered the season in DuvalSports.com's Northeast Florida preseason top 10. Fleming Island held the No. 1 spot after finishing 2025 with a 19-8 record. Middleburg, led by Katelynn Laezza, Amelia Cobb and libero Reese Forkum, was ranked No. 5.
Fleming Island opened 2026 by winning its first three matches before losing back-to-back to Santa Fe, 3-1 on Sept. 8, and Ponte Vedra, 3-2 on Sept. 10. The Golden Eagles have not lost since. Through 12 matches, the team holds a 33-12 advantage in sets won.
Brosky and Easton lead Fleming Island's attack
Senior outside hitter Lauren Brosky, who has committed to play Division I beach volleyball at Florida International University, and junior attacker Lille Easton have anchored the Fleming Island offense this season. In 2025, Brosky recorded 115 kills while Easton contributed 93 kills and 84 digs, according to DuvalSports.com. Middle blocker Kaylee Clark, a Santa Fe College signee headed to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I level, rounds out the core.

A busy stretch ahead for the Golden Eagles
Fleming Island hosts Wolfson at 7 p.m. Thursday at The Nest. The Golden Eagles play at Santa Fe on Sept. 29, then host Clay on Oct. 1 and Creekside on Oct. 6. After a road trip to Keystone Heights on Oct. 7, they return home to face Tocoi Creek on Oct. 8.
