A small blue dessert cart called Salty Air Treats has appeared in Fleming Island, selling cookies, mini cakes and cake pops on the honor system every weekend.
Jordan Toon, a stay-at-home mom and its owner, launched the business a few months ago on the stretch of Old Pine Trail off County Road 220 between Cobblestone at Eagle Harbor Apartments and the Pine Lake neighborhood, as first reported by Clay Today's Kyla Woodard.
The setup is completely self-serve. Customers walk up, pick what they want, pay and leave. A camera mounted on top keeps things honest.
From soap maker to weekend baker
Before Salty Air Treats, Toon ran Elder Bee, a business making handcrafted soaps and healthy-living products. She said her pregnancy made it hard to keep up with that work, so she turned to baking.
"After she was born, my dad got me this cart because these carts are becoming popular online," Toon said of her daughter.
Flavors, prices and Friday prep
Walk-up customers choose from flavors like cookie butter, Dr. Popper, fruity cereal and cookie dough. Items cost $4 each, and a 10-item bundle is also available.
Every Friday morning, Toon bakes four to five cakes, preps toppings, dips chocolates and packages all the treats before the weekend rush. She also offers free coloring pages for children.
"At first it was a little thing, but I'm really enjoying it," Toon said.
Customers travel from across Clay County to visit, according to Clay Today. Toon's next goal is to buy a trailer, a step toward eventually opening her own bakery.
Salty Air Treats is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
