Fleming Island takes on Bishop Kenny in Jacksonville on Friday, Oct. 30, with a 7 p.m. kickoff and a playoff bubble that won't wait.

The Golden Eagles (4-4) need wins to climb back into the top eight in the Region 1-4A MaxPreps rankings, which determine who reaches the regional playoffs beginning Nov. 13. Clay Today reported Friday that Fleming Island "sits precariously in the 7-through-10 positions" in those rankings, with a 31.6 strength-of-schedule rating.

Tonight's game is not a district contest. Fleming Island competes in Class 4A District 4, while Bishop Kenny plays in Class 3A District 3. But the result still carries weight in the MaxPreps algorithm that will sort the playoff field.

The Golden Eagles are coming off their worst loss of the season. St. Augustine ran out to a 42-0 halftime lead on Oct. 23 and won 42-7, according to Clay Today's recap published Oct. 28. Senior cornerback Chase Donaldson provided one of Fleming Island's few bright spots with an interception and 10-yard return. Quarterback Greyson Critch connected with junior receiver Ryan Siliac on a six-yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter for the Eagles' only score.

Running back Brady Digman led the ground game with 51 yards against a dominant St. Augustine front. Digman has been Fleming Island's offensive engine this fall. In a 49-24 district win over Orange Park on Sept. 25, he ran for 156 yards and four touchdowns on 24 carries, according to Clay Today's game account.

Bishop Kenny (5-4) enters on a three-game winning streak, according to the Crusaders' MaxPreps schedule. The Crusaders beat Zarephath Academy 45-6 on Oct. 16, NFEI 49-21 on Oct. 19 and Terry Parker 50-14 on Oct. 23. They have scored 144 points in those three games. Bishop Kenny's four losses came against Bartram Trail, Bolles, Merritt Island and Raines.

Fleming Island head coach Tom MacPherson has spoken openly about building the program. In Clay Today's coverage of the St. Augustine loss, MacPherson said, "For me, I would love to get to a place where Fleming Island is St. Augustine."

The stakes extend beyond Friday night. Fleming Island closes the regular season at home Nov. 3 against Clay, resuming a game that was postponed by weather on Oct. 9. Clay was leading 11-6 when that game was stopped, Clay Today reported. The Nov. 3 contest will serve as the regular-season finale for both teams.

FI Eagle Athletics posted on X Thursday confirming the 7 p.m. kickoff at Bishop Kenny, which the school describes as "on the river."

Fleming Island's remaining schedule: at Bishop Kenny on Friday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m., then home against Clay on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m.
