Clay County high school students have until 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, to apply for a $500 community service award.

The Student Service Challenge offers the money toward educational goals for students who complete 20 or more new hours of community service and write an essay on civic responsibility and leadership, Action News Jax reported.

Applications opened Thursday, Aug. 27, at 5 p.m. The application window runs just four days.

The program is a partnership between Clay County District Schools, the Clay Education Foundation, the Florida Department of Education and the Florida Lottery. The district announced the challenge on its Facebook page, describing the award as available to a limited number of eligible students.

Orange Park High School shared the opportunity with families on its own social media page, confirming that local schools are directing students to apply.

To qualify, accepted students must log at least 20 new hours of community service. The word "new" indicates previously completed hours do not count. Students must also submit an essay focused on civic responsibility and leadership.

Space is limited. The district urged students to complete their online applications promptly. The application form, titled "Student Services Challenge Application 2026," is hosted on Google Forms.

The program aims to help high school students develop leadership skills, give back to their communities and support post-secondary education, according to the district.

Accepted students will be notified Tuesday, Sept. 1.
