A Clay County Sheriff's Office search dog named Ikarus located a missing elderly woman safe in a wooded area near her home in early October, the agency announced.
The woman, described by the sheriff's office as vulnerable, had gone missing when K9 Deputy Taliaferro and Ikarus were called in. After an extensive search, the pair found her in the woods close to where she lived, according to a CCSO post on X published Thursday, Oct. 22. The sheriff's office did not release the woman's name or the exact date of the search.
Ikarus has served with CCSO for roughly two years. His nickname is "Goobers."
In that time he has recorded dozens of successful finds, the agency said. He specializes in locating missing people and detecting narcotics.
The sheriff's office praised the dog in its post, saying he has "an incredible nose, a big job and heart of gold."
