Residents on three Orange Park-area streets should boil their tap water after the Clay County Utility Authority shut off service Monday for emergency water main repairs.
The precautionary boil-water advisory, posted on the utility's website by Janice Loudermilk, covers Merrian Street, Hutchinson Avenue and a portion of Carlbrook Road. CCUA said the interruption was needed to repair its water distribution system but did not describe the nature of the break.
Advisory stays until testing clears water
The advisory will stay in place until CCUA completes a bacteriological survey of the drinking water supply. No timeline for the testing has been announced. The utility said it will post a notice on affected residents' doors and update its website once the advisory is lifted.
CCUA's website showed conflicting signals about whether the advisory remained in effect as of Tuesday. Page metadata tagged the notice as resolved, but the advisory text itself described the order as still active pending test results. Residents should check clayutility.org for the latest status.
What residents should do during repairs
CCUA said technicians must finish the repair, flush the lines and measure disinfection levels before service is fully restored. The utility recommended residents turn off appliances that automatically draw water during the interruption. Once water returns, CCUA said to let faucets run before use because air in the system may cause temporary discoloration.
Latest in a string of summer advisories
The Merrian Street advisory is the latest in a string of similar disruptions this year. CCUA issued boil-water advisories for Floral Ridge Circle on Aug. 6, for the vicinity of Blairmore Boulevard East on Aug. 7 and for Lakotna Drive on Aug. 11. The Blairmore and Lakotna advisories were both retracted Aug. 13 after testing cleared the water supply. The Floral Ridge advisory was also retracted after testing, according to CCUA's website.
