United Soccer Alliance has named Nawal Gurung head coach of its men's team in the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL), adding a coach who began his career at Fulham F.C. in England's Premier League system.

Gurung, a UEFA-licensed coach originally from the U.K., moved to the United States and contributed to Jacksonville University's soccer program during a league and playoff-winning season, according to the club's announcement published Wednesday, Aug. 26. He also worked with Nepal's U23 national team, providing coaching and performance support.

He holds a master's degree in kinesiology and certifications in strength and conditioning. Gurung runs his own player-performance company, Premier Level Performance.

"My goal as a coach is to raise the standard … so every player I work with can perform with confidence and purpose," Gurung said in the announcement.

Matt Hollyoak, United Soccer Alliance's executive director, called Gurung "the perfect fit" and said his knowledge of the game and passion for youth development will have "a very positive impact on the players at our club."

The UPSL operates in the fourth tier of the U.S. Soccer pyramid. The league has grown from 10 teams in 2011 to nearly 400 clubs nationwide, with an average player age of 22.5 years.
