Orange Park-Middleburg football game suspended with Broncos leading 15-13

Orange Park's District 4-4A football matchup against Middleburg was suspended Friday, Oct. 9, after rain and lightning interrupted play with the Broncos leading 15-13 at Bronco Stadium.

The teams had reached halftime when severe weather forced the postponement. The second half will be completed at a later date, according to News4Jax.

The Orange Park Football program announced on X that the game had been postponed. No makeup date has been confirmed.

The Raiders entered the contest 2-4 overall, while Middleburg was 4-2. Both teams were seeking their first District 4-4A victory.

News4Jax selected the matchup as its Varsity 4 Game of the Week.

Official game status remains unclear

Although the game was suspended before the second half could be completed, MaxPreps lists Middleburg as a 15-13 winner.

Florida Gridiron Preps also records the score as final, giving Middleburg a 5-2 record and Orange Park a 2-5 mark.

Those listings conflict with News4Jax's reporting that the game was postponed and would be completed later.

As of Thursday, Oct. 15, News4Jax continued to identify the matchup as one of three area games postponed or canceled because of the previous week's weather.

Neither school's announcement nor the available reporting establishes that the Florida High School Athletic Association has officially declared the contest complete.

Orange Park is coached by Marcus Wimberly, while Middleburg is led by Ryan Wolfe.
