Fleming Island volleyball made school history Wednesday, Oct. 28, beating Arnold 3-1 in the Class 4A Region 1 final to earn the program's first regional championship.
The Golden Eagles dominated the opening two sets, winning 25-12 and 25-11, before Arnold fought back to take the third. Fleming Island closed out the match with a 27-25 fourth-set victory. The final set scores were 25-12, 25-11, 20-25 and 27-25, according to News4JAX.
"Regional Champions!" FI Eagle Athletics wrote on X after the match. "For the first time in school history, your Golden Eagle Volleyball team takes the Regional Title, and will head to the Final 4 next week!"
The win pushed Fleming Island's record to 25-3, according to MaxPreps. News4JAX reported the Golden Eagles have won 14 consecutive matches behind the hitting of Lillie Eason, Lauren Brosky and Kaylee Clark. Eason is a junior and Brosky a senior, according to Clay Today.
The milestone marks the first time Fleming Island has advanced past the regional round. In 2025, the Golden Eagles lost to Ponte Vedra in the Region 1-5A opener when the program competed in Class 5A, Clay Today reported.
Road to the regional title
Coach Amy Yoder's squad entered the postseason as the top seed in Region 1-4A after winning the district championship over Bishop Kenny, a three-time state champion program, in a 3-1 victory on Oct. 15, Clay Today reported.
At the time of the district title, Yoder pointed to the depth of her front line. She said the attack had grown from a two-player combination of Brosky and Eason to a four-player group that keeps opposing defenses scrambling. Eason led the team with 381 kills at that point, and Brosky had 291.
Setter Shelby Jackson had 522 assists for the season as of the district final, and senior setter Moe Aseta had 369.
State Final Four ahead
Fleming Island joins Bishop Moore, Legacy and St. Petersburg in the Class 4A Final Four, according to News4JAX.
The Golden Eagles are scheduled to face Legacy in the state semifinals at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, according to MaxPreps. The state semifinals and championship matches will be held at Polk State College in Winter Haven.
The Orlando Sentinel reported the Class 4A championship match is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7.
