Fleming Island's district football matchup against Clay was suspended Friday, Oct. 9, with the Blue Devils leading 11-6 after severe weather interrupted play at Fleming Island High School.
The District 4-4A game is expected to resume Tuesday, Nov. 3, or Wednesday, Nov. 4, according to News4JAX's Week 8 scoreboard.
A final date and kickoff time had not been announced in the school's athletic department update on X.
The interruption came as Hurricane Isaias disrupted high school football schedules across Northeast Florida, forcing several teams to postpone or reschedule games.
Weather disrupts Clay County football
Fleming Island and Clay were among several teams whose Friday night games were affected by the storm.
Middleburg's game against Orange Park also was suspended, with the Broncos leading 15-13 at the start of the third quarter, according to News4JAX.
Other affected games included Oakleaf's matchup at Ocala Forest, which was postponed to Monday, Oct. 12, and Raines' game against Bishop Kenny, also moved to Monday.
The Fleming Island-Clay game carries implications for the District 4-4A standings.
Fleming Island entered Friday's matchup unbeaten in district play. A victory would have kept the Golden Eagles on track for a possible district-title showdown against St. Augustine on Oct. 23, according to News4JAX's Week 8 preview.
The teams entered the game with Fleming Island at 3-3 overall and Clay at 4-2.
District standings await unfinished game
Although the game remains unfinished, MaxPreps currently lists the 11-6 score as a Fleming Island loss and shows the Golden Eagles at 3-4 overall and 2-1 in district play.
News4JAX, however, identifies the game as postponed until November. The MaxPreps listing should not be interpreted as confirmation that Clay has won.
The rivalry has been competitive in recent years. Fleming Island entered the matchup leading the all-time series 14-6 and had won the previous four meetings by at least 10 points, according to News4JAX.
Clay quarterback Landon Martin entered Friday's game with 10 rushing touchdowns, averaging 7 yards per carry. Defensive lineman Jayshawn McCloud led the Blue Devils with 43 tackles, including 14 for loss.
The delayed completion leaves the teams awaiting a final result from a game that began during the regular season.
Fleming Island faces Middleburg next
Fleming Island is scheduled to host Middleburg on Friday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m., followed by a road game against St. Augustine on Friday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m.
The Golden Eagles are also scheduled to visit Bishop Kenny on Oct. 30.
Fans can check Fleming Island's MaxPreps schedule and the school's athletic department announcements for updates on the unfinished Clay game.
