The Clay County Sheriff's Office moved a Special Olympics golf fundraiser from August to Oct. 20 at The Golf Club at Fleming Island, citing summer heat.
The sheriff's office announced the change on X on Aug. 28, saying the decision came after feedback from supporters about Florida's summer temperatures. The office asked anyone who had planned to attend in August to update their calendars.
New date, time and location set
The rescheduled Clay County Special Olympics Florida Golf Tournament Fundraiser will run from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Top of the Tee, the Toptracer range at The Golf Club at Fleming Island, 2260 Town Center Blvd.
Registration is still open.
Scramble format returns from original August event
The evening will feature a nine-hole Toptracer scramble on Pinehurst No. 2, along with prizes, a raffle and a silent auction. The original event had been set for Aug. 4, and Clay Today reported at the time that the tournament would include no golf carts, no lost ball searches and plenty of shade.
Proceeds to fund year-round athlete programs
Proceeds support year-round sports training, competition, equipment, uniforms, transportation and wellness programs for Clay County Special Olympics athletes, according to the sheriff's office.
How to register, sponsor or donate
Team registration, event sponsorships and raffle and silent auction donations are still available. The sheriff's office did not include a registration link in its announcement. Residents can follow the Clay County Sheriff's Office on X at @ccsofl for updates.
