Cavender's Boot City opened a 13,191-square-foot Western wear store at 249 Blanding Blvd. on Sept. 18, the Texas-based chain's first location in Clay County.

The store fills a space previously occupied by Boot Barn, which relocated to a temporary location at 8151 Blanding Blvd. while building a new, larger store in the area, according to Hoodline.

Orange Park is one of three Florida locations Cavender's announced on June 8, alongside stores in Brandon and Ocala, according to a company press release. The chain had operated just one Florida store, in Orlando, since 2019 before the expansion, the Jacksonville Business Journal reported. All three new stores opened between August and September.

The family-owned retailer was founded in 1965 in Pittsburg, Texas, by James and Patricia "Pat" Cavender. Brothers Joe, Mike and Clay Cavender now run the company, which has grown to more than 130 stores across 18 states, according to the company.

The Orange Park store stocks brands including Ariat, Wrangler and Resistol, along with Cavender's private-label lines Rockin' C, Rafter C and JRC & Sons, the Jax Daily Record reported. Services include boot fitting, hat shaping and boot stretching.

The store also offers a loyalty program that awards one point per dollar spent and issues a $5 reward for every 200 points, according to Hoodline.

The opening adds to a stretch of Orange Park seeing new commercial activity. As we reported Saturday, Oct. 17, 2nd & Charles filled a 21,000-square-foot space at Orange Park Mall, which is undergoing a broader overhaul under owner Second Horizon Capital.

Second Horizon Capital purchased the 950,000-square-foot mall at 1910 Wells Road in August 2025. The firm has since completed interior paint, LED lighting and food court upgrades, the Jacksonville Business Journal reported. A former Sears site at the property is slated to become open-air retail.

Randy Bowman, the mall's general manager, said at a Sept. 22 ribbon-cutting that the renovations make the center feel "bigger and brighter," according to Action News Jax.

Cavender's is open.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
