Clay County residents who want to vote in the Tuesday, Nov. 3 general election must register or update their voter information by Monday, Oct. 5.
Supervisor of Elections Chris Chambless issued the reminder in a notice Sept. 29, six days before the deadline. The county had 153,792 active registered voters as of the August primary, according to figures from the Supervisor of Elections office.
How to register
Voters can register or update their information online at RegistertoVoteFlorida.gov. Paper registration applications are available at all Clay County public libraries, the Tax Collector's office and the Supervisor of Elections Office at 500 N. Orange Ave. in Green Cove Springs.
Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.
Paper applications must be postmarked or hand-delivered to the Elections Office by Oct. 5. Chambless's office recommended that voters mailing paper forms visit a U.S. Postal Service (USPS) retail location and request a manual postmark at the counter, citing new USPS procedures that could affect postmark timing.
Hand-delivering a paper form or registering online eliminates that risk.
What's on the ballot
The Nov. 3 general election includes local races that directly affect Orange Park and Fleming Island residents. The Fleming Island Plantation Community Development District (CDD) has three seats up for election, Seats 1, 2 and 5, according to the district's June agenda. Each seat carries a four-year term. Those CDD races are nonpartisan and will appear on the general election ballot.
The CDD board oversees infrastructure, amenities and services within the Fleming Island Plantation community. Residents who live in the district and are registered to vote by Oct. 5 can cast ballots in those races.
Key dates ahead
After the Oct. 5 registration deadline, the next milestone is Thursday, Oct. 22, the last day to request a vote-by-mail ballot, according to Florida Today. Florida's mandatory early voting period begins Saturday, Oct. 24, though Clay County's specific early voting schedule had not been posted as of Sept. 29.
Voters with questions can call the Supervisor of Elections at (904) 269-6350 or visit ClayElections.gov for updates on early voting locations and hours.
