The Clay County Utility Authority (CCUA) issued a precautionary drinking water advisory for part of Tuscarora Trail after emergency repairs to the water distribution system forced a service interruption Tuesday, Oct. 20.

The CCUA notice said water service to a portion of the street was interrupted for the emergency work. The utility's posting references an attached map showing the affected area, though specific addresses were not listed in the text of the advisory.

The advisory remains active. It will stay in effect until CCUA completes a bacteriological survey of the public drinking water supply. The utility said it will post a notice on affected residents' doors and update its website once the survey clears.

What residents should do

While water service is unavailable, CCUA recommends turning off all appliances that automatically draw water. The utility did not specify which appliances in the text of the notice but said the list includes equipment beyond what was named.

Once technicians finish the repair, they will flush the water lines and measure disinfection levels before restoring service. After water comes back on, CCUA recommends letting faucets run briefly. Air trapped in the system may cause water to appear discolored temporarily, the utility said.

Recent pattern of repairs

This is not the first emergency water repair CCUA has handled in recent weeks. The utility's water notices page shows multiple advisories issued and later retracted across Clay County in late September and early October. A precautionary advisory for Merrian Street was retracted Oct. 1. Another advisory was retracted Sept. 30, and a separate notice was also retracted Oct. 1.

Those earlier advisories followed the same pattern: emergency repairs to the water distribution system, a precautionary drinking water advisory, and a retraction once bacteriological testing confirmed the water was safe.

The Tuscarora Trail advisory has not yet been retracted.
